UMD and Fort Meade Establish Maryland's First Intergovernmental Support Agreement
The University of Maryland (UMD) and U.S. Army Garrison Fort Meade have initiated Maryland's first Intergovernmental Support Agreement (IGSA), allowing UMD to engage in operations and modernization efforts at the installation. This partnership is expected to enhance operational efficiencies and provide applied research opportunities for UMD's faculty and students.

The University of Maryland and U.S. Army Garrison Fort Meade have signed Maryland's inaugural Intergovernmental Support Agreement (IGSA). This agreement enables UMD to provide research, services, and educational experiences that address operational needs at Fort Meade, which hosts the largest workforce in Maryland.
Discussions initiating this partnership started last summer, focusing on data analytics, IT upskilling, and other support services. The IGSA allows for a streamlined process and aims for cost efficiencies over a potential ten-year timeline. This partnership is anticipated to set a precedent for future collaborations across Maryland's educational institutions, enhancing both local workforce capabilities and national security initiatives.
