UNDP Partners with Australia for Three Additional Solar Energy Centres in Jamaica
The UNDP, in partnership with the Government of Australia, is investing JMD 9.2 million to establish three solar-powered community centres in Jamaica's fishing communities affected by Hurricane Melissa. This brings the total to five centres with plans for more. The centres will provide cold storage, internet, and charging stations, benefiting over 300 fishers. The initiative aims to support livelihoods, enhance food security, and promote sustainable development in vulnerable communities.

The UNDP has announced a JMD 9.2 million partnership with Australia to establish three additional solar-powered community centres in fishing areas affected by Hurricane Melissa, raising the total to five. The new centres will supplement two recently completed in Parottee and Galleon Beach, providing cold storage, internet, and charging stations to over 300 fishers.
Each centre is equipped with eight photovoltaic panels and batteries, with the initiative aimed at supporting livelihoods and enhancing resilience in vulnerable communities. The project is part of UNDP's Jamaica Resilient Recovery Initiative, addressing post-harvest losses and promoting sustainable development.
