United Energy Pakistan Faces Financial Crisis with $300 Million in Unpaid Receivables, Leading to Layoffs

NATURAL GAS

United Energy Pakistan Limited (UEP) is experiencing a severe financial crisis, facing around $300 million in unpaid receivables and delayed tax refunds, leading to layoffs and jeopardizing energy security in Pakistan. The company, owned by United Energy Group, is one of the largest foreign oil and gas producers in Pakistan, managing upstream exploration and production primarily in Sindh.

UEP has already laid off seventy employees as cash flow issues deepen. Of the total pending tax refunds of approximately Rs 87 billion, only Rs 21 billion has been released, with broader disbursements awaiting approval from the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).

UEP's production, which includes 7,800 barrels of crude oil per day and significant natural gas output, is at risk if cash flow constraints persist. Industry officials have expressed concern that ongoing financial difficulties could undermine foreign investment and impact Pakistan's long-term energy security.
