University of Arizona Launches Kyl Institute for National Security
The University of Arizona has established the Kyl Institute for National Security to enhance research translation into solutions for U.S. national security. This follows a partnership with Precise Systems to pursue contracts under the $151 billion Golden Dome missile defense initiative.
The institute will succeed the Applied Research Corp. and is named after former U.S. Senator Jon Kyl. Retired Air Force Gen.
Robin Rand will lead the institute, which aims to leverage UA's strengths in space operations and hypersonics. The Arizona Board of Regents provided funding for this initiative, set for 2025. The UA's total research activities surpassed $1 billion in fiscal year 2024, marking a $45 million increase from the previous year.
