University of Arizona Partners with Precise Systems for $151 Billion Golden Dome Missile Defense Contracts

DEFENSE

The University of Arizona (UA) has partnered with defense contractor Precise Systems, Inc. to compete for up to $151 billion in contracts under the Golden Dome missile defense program. This initiative, inspired by Israel's Iron Dome, aims to intercept missiles, including those launched from space.

The partnership is part of the SHIELD contracting vehicle, approved by the U.S. Missile Defense Agency, allowing eligible teams to develop technology for Golden Dome construction. UA's involvement is supported by UA Venture Capital, which has a $100 million defense venture fund.

The Precise Systems team, which includes UA startups DeUVe Photonics, FreeFall Aerospace, and CM Laser Technologies, is among 2,100 competitors vying for these contracts. The collaboration seeks to enhance the defense industry in Southern Arizona, joining existing companies like Raytheon Technologies and Fort Huachuca.
