University of Georgia Achieves Record $654M in R&D Expenditures for FY25
The University of Georgia reported a record $654 million in research and development expenditures for fiscal year 2025, reflecting a 4.1% increase and marking seven years of growth. The university's R&D funding has surged by 75% since 2015, with significant contributions from federal agencies and ongoing projects like the $18 million BioFoundry program. Additionally, a new medical education and research building is under construction, expected to generate up to $2.3 billion for the state's economy by 2040.

The university has added 223 faculty members since 2020 and has increased endowed professorships to 400. A $100 million medical education and research building is under construction, projected to contribute $1.8 to $2.3 billion to the state's economy by 2040.
UGA's federal R&D funding rose 11%, with significant contributions from the U.S. Department of Defense, NSF, and NASA. Notable projects include the $18 million BioFoundry program and a $10 million initiative for generative AI in education. UGA's economic impact on Georgia was estimated at $8.4 billion in FY 2024.
