UPDF Appeals to Mufti of Uganda for Peace Ahead of National Elections
The Uganda Peoples' Defence Forces (UPDF) has requested the Mufti of Uganda, Dr. Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje, to guide Muslim clerics and the faithful in promoting peace and harmony during the upcoming national elections.
This appeal was made by a senior UPDF delegation led by Maj. Gen. Henry Masiko during a visit to the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) headquarters.
Maj. Gen. Masiko stated that the army is engaging with religious leaders to ensure peace and stability nationwide.
He emphasized the UPDF's commitment to professionalism and discipline. The Mufti briefed the delegation on the history of the UMSC and ongoing activities, including a constitutional amendment process sponsored by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni. He assured the officers of the UMSC's dedication to fostering peace and mutual understanding among the Muslim community.
