U.S. Air Force Initiates B-52J Engine Upgrade Program with Draft Solicitation
The U.S. Air Force has released a draft solicitation for the B-52J Commercial Engine Replacement Program, aiming for a long-term supply contract. This modernization effort addresses the aging TF33 engines and ensures mission reliability through enhanced propulsion systems.

The U.S. Air Force published a draft solicitation for the B-52J Commercial Engine Replacement Program (CERP) on April 16, 2026, aiming for a ten-year production contract. The solicitation is managed by the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center at Tinker Air Force Base, Oklahoma, targeting the replacement of Pratt & Whitney TF33 engines.
A two-day Industry Days event is scheduled for May 12-13, 2026, allowing industry engagement and technical briefings. The contract structure will include modification kits organized into Kit Groups A, B, and E, under an Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity arrangement, with the program extending through at least late 2037. The CERP program seeks to enhance the B-52's operational reliability and fuel efficiency, crucial for its longevity in service through the 2050s.
