DEFENSE

The U.S. Air Force's MH-139 Grey Wolf helicopter completed its first operational mission on January 8 at Malmstrom Air Force Base, Montana, enhancing nuclear security operations. The helicopter, operated by the 40th Helicopter Squadron, provided escort and protective functions during convoy activities of the 341st Missile Security Operations Squadron.

The MH-139, developed to replace the UH-1N fleet, features increased speed, range, and survivability with advanced avionics and communications systems. This mission marks the initial integration of the Grey Wolf into day-to-day nuclear security operations supporting U.S. intercontinental ballistic missile fields.

The helicopter will perform various missions including command-and-control support and security response across missile fields in Montana, Wyoming, and North Dakota. The Air Force plans to continue operational flights to fully integrate the MH-139 into its security operations.
