U.S. Army Achieves Interoperability Certification Milestone for Aviation Platforms
The U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command Aviation & Missile Center has achieved a significant milestone by becoming the only facility capable of conducting Air and Ground Interoperability Certification (A-AIC) across multiple aviation platforms. A successful certification test in January 2026 evaluated interoperability among various Apache and Black Hawk variants, as well as unmanned aircraft systems, leading to the generation of Technical Incident Reports for further review.

On March 11, 2026, the U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command Aviation & Missile Center announced its unique capability to conduct Air and Ground Interoperability Certification (A-AIC) across multiple aviation platforms.
The Army has transitioned from a slow, holistic certification process to a more agile, aviation-focused model, allowing for more frequent testing. In January 2026, a landmark interoperability certification test was conducted, assessing two Apache variants, a Black Hawk variant, and an unmanned aircraft system.
This test produced two Technical Incident Reports, which are pending review. The new certification model aims to improve operational capabilities and integration across key aviation systems.
