The US Army is enhancing its artillery capabilities with a $473 million contract to procure 40 M109A7 Paladin self-propelled howitzers from BAE Systems. This acquisition represents a strategic upgrade to maintain dominance in modern warfare by incorporating advanced technologies that improve targeting accuracy, firing rate, and operational range.

The M109A7 features enhanced fire control systems, variable barrel lengths of 52 and 58 calibers, and upgraded armor for better survivability against modern threats. The new units can achieve firing distances exceeding 60 km with rocket-assisted projectiles, allowing precise strikes deep into enemy territory.
