US Army Advances Multi-Domain Operations with New Tactics and Technologies
The US Army is evolving its Multi-Domain Operations (MDO) approach, originally introduced in 2017, to counter advanced threats from Russia and China. Key initiatives include the Multi-Domain Task Force (MDTF), long-range precision fires, and modernization programs for air defense and reconnaissance. The Army is focusing on integrating technologies such as uncrewed systems and enhanced command and control capabilities to improve operational effectiveness in contested environments. These efforts aim to ensure relevance in both European and Indo-Pacific theaters.

The US Army is implementing Multi-Domain Operations (MDO) to counter emerging threats from Russia and China, focusing on the Multi-Domain Task Force (MDTF) for enhanced operational reach. MDO incorporates long-range precision fires, including the Precision Strike Missile, and new rotary-wing aircraft for reconnaissance and troop deployment.
The Army has established two MDTFs, one in Germany and one in the Indo-Pacific, with plans for three additional units. Modernization priorities include air defense systems and the integration of uncrewed vehicles. Initiatives like the Transformation in Contact (TIC) program aim to adapt MDO tactics based on lessons learned from current conflicts, ensuring the Army's operational relevance.
