The U.S. Army has approved the M111 Offensive Hand Grenade (OHG) for Full Material Release (FMR), marking the introduction of the first new lethal hand grenade since 1968. The M111, developed by the Capabilities Program Executive Ammunition and Energetics (CPE A&E) and U.S.

Combat Capabilities Development Command (DEVCOM) Armaments Center at Picatinny Arsenal, will replace the Mk3A2 grenade series. The Mk3A2 is restricted due to its asbestos body, while the M111 features a plastic body that is fully consumed during detonation.
