U.S. Army Combat Training Centers to Integrate Drone Warfare Tactics
The U.S. Army is adapting its Combat Training Centers (CTCs) to incorporate small unmanned aerial systems (sUAS) as essential tools for both offensive and defensive operations. Training is being updated to reflect modern warfare realities, where drones are integral to tactics and decision-making.
Currently, CTCs focus primarily on traditional staff processes, but the dynamic battlefield requires training that includes drone operations. Lessons from conflicts in Ukraine and Gaza demonstrate that drones enhance accuracy and efficiency in combat.
The National Training Center is beginning to implement drone threat replication, and initiatives like Gainey Company are pushing for innovative drone training. To fully prepare soldiers, CTCs must embed sUAS into every training scenario, update adjudication rules, and establish offensive drone protocols. This shift aims to ensure soldiers are equipped to face contemporary challenges and leverage drone capabilities effectively.
