US Army Corps and Weeks Marine Awarded for Safety in Fire Island to Montauk Point Project
The US Army Corps of Engineers, New York District, and Weeks Marine received an Award of Merit for Safety Excellence from Engineering News Record. The award acknowledges their safety measures during the Fire Island to Montauk Point Project, where approximately 1.275 million cubic yards of sand were placed in Westhampton Beach and Cupsogue. The $2.7 billion project aims to restore coastal resiliency and reduce flood risk after Hurricane Sandy in 2012. Upcoming phases include home-elevations for 4,400 structures in flood-prone areas.

The US Army Corps of Engineers, New York District, and Weeks Marine were awarded an Award of Merit for Safety Excellence by Engineering News Record. This recognition is for their work on the Fire Island to Montauk Point Project (FIMP), where approximately 1.275 million cubic yards of sand were placed in Westhampton Beach and Cupsogue.
The $2.7 billion FIMP initiative, funded entirely by the federal government, aims to restore the New York coastline damaged by Hurricane Sandy in 2012 and mitigate flood risks. The next phase will focus on elevating homes in flood-prone areas. The project has emphasized safety protocols, resulting in over 58,000 work hours without recordable incidents.
