U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Announces 2025-2026 Winter Access Policy for Lake Sakakawea and Lake Audubon
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has announced the winter access policy for Lake Sakakawea and Lake Audubon for the 2025-2026 season, providing 116 access points for Lake Sakakawea and 20 for Lake Audubon. Access is allowed from freeze-over until March 15, 2026, with restrictions on ice driving and off-road vehicles, and anglers must use licensed vehicles on authorized roads. Users are advised to check local ice conditions and are limited to ice fishing only.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Omaha District, has released the winter access policy for Lake Sakakawea and Lake Audubon for the 2025-2026 season. There will be 116 access points for Lake Sakakawea and 20 for Lake Audubon, including boat ramps and shoreline access sites.
Access is permitted from the lakes' freeze-over until March 15, 2026, or until the ice melts. Lewis and Clark Magnum Point and Hofflund Bay Wildlife Management Area are open following the end of the muzzle loader season on December 15.
Ice driving is not recommended due to safety hazards, and anglers must use licensed vehicles and authorized roads for access. Some roads may be closed due to snow, and off-road vehicle access is prohibited. Access is restricted to ice fishing only, and users are advised to check ice conditions with local sources.
