U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Launches RAS 2025 Software for Enhanced River Modeling

DEFENSE

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' Hydrologic Engineering Center (HEC) has introduced the River Analysis System (RAS) 2025, replacing the existing HEC-RAS software. Currently in Alpha version, RAS 2025 offers faster processing, improved meshing capabilities, and enhanced compatibility with diverse data sets.

The development focused on collaboration among modelers, engineers, and computer scientists to create a GIS-aware model for future software needs. The previous version, HEC-RAS 6.6, will no longer be maintained as attention shifts to RAS 2025.

The software aims to improve floodplain mapping, flood studies, and water infrastructure analysis. Initial training sessions for hydraulic engineers have received positive feedback, highlighting RAS 2025's user-friendly features. Future updates are scheduled for 2026, including advanced terrain modifications and improved modeling capabilities.
