Gainey, commanding general of the U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command (USASMDC), is transforming the command into a warfighting headquarters as he concludes his second year in command. This transformation includes the integration of the 263rd and 32nd Army Air and Missile Defense Commands.
Gainey emphasizes the importance of air and missile defense for homeland security and the need for additional resources. The Joint Functional Component Command for Integrated Missile Defense (JFFC IMD) is also evolving to enhance operational support for homeland defense.
