US Authorizes Increase of Over 30,000 Military Personnel Across Armed Forces
The US National Defense Authorization Act permits an increase of over 30,000 military personnel in 2025. The Army will add 11,700 soldiers, totaling 454,000; the Navy will increase by 12,300 to 334,600.
The Air Force adds 1,500, reaching 320,000, while the Space Force expands by 600 to 10,400. Reserve components will also grow, with the Marine Corps Reserve adding 1,500, Air Force Reserve 500, and Army National Guard 3,000.
The Coast Guard Reserve will aim for 8,500 personnel. Overall military strength will approach 2.1 million. Recruiting accelerated in late 2025, with the Army noting strong performance, while retention remains a challenge as 25% of recruits since 2022 leave within two years.
