US Department of War Confirms Development of Directed Energy Weapons Amid Allegations of Covert Use
The US Department of War confirmed plans to expand the use of Directed Energy Weapons (DEWs) on January 23, 2026. This announcement follows a raid in early January where American forces reportedly utilized a sonic weapon against guards at the complex of former Venezuelan dictator Nicolas Maduro.
The Under Secretary of War for Research and Engineering stated that DEWs are being scaled up. Additionally, a whistleblower from the CIA claimed she experienced an 'anomalous health incident' related to energy weapons.
The National Intelligence Council in 2023 deemed it unlikely that foreign adversaries were responsible for such incidents, but a House subcommittee report indicated an increasing likelihood of foreign involvement. The CIA has faced criticism for its handling of these reports, with a bipartisan Senate Intelligence Committee recommending improvements in care for affected personnel.
