US Funded Pacific Partnership 2025 Project Renovates Magiagi Primary School in Samoa

A U.S.-funded initiative to strengthen education in Samoa has led to the renovation of Magiagi Primary School's sanitation facilities, completed in December 2025. The project, part of the Pacific Partnership 2025 program, began in September 2025 and involved U.S.

Navy engineers upgrading plumbing and constructing a new toilet block. However, governance disputes between the school committee and village chiefs over authority and leftover construction materials led to the school's closure, disrupting student exams.

The Ministry of Education & Culture emphasized adherence to governance protocols to protect education. The official handover of the renovated facilities is scheduled for the start of the 2026 school year.
