U.S. Investigates Egyptian Steel Imports Amid Declining Exports
The U.S. Department of Commerce is investigating steel rebar imports from Egypt for potential dumping and subsidies. This could lead to significant tariffs affecting Egypt's export capacity to the U.S. market.

The U.S. Department of Commerce is conducting anti-dumping and countervailing duty investigations into steel rebar imports from Egypt, with preliminary findings expected by August and November 2025. Egyptian rebar exports decreased from $145 million in 2023 to $114 million in 2024, prompting U.S. producers to file a complaint in June 2025.
In response, Egyptian exporters, supported by the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade, are preparing their defense, emphasizing compliance with international subsidy standards. Additionally, Egypt's rebar production increased by 12.3% to over 9 million tons in 2024, indicating resilience against market challenges. The outcome may impact Egypt's critical access to the U.S. steel market.
