U.S. LNG Exports Surge, Driving Caribbean Gas Investment with New Infrastructure Projects
U.S. LNG exports have increased significantly through 2025, benefiting Latin America and the Caribbean, with a 40% rise in shipments for 2024, led by Brazil at over 110 billion cubic feet. The Dominican Republic is also among the top importers.
In late 2025, U.S. LNG monthly exports surpassed 10 million tons, reshaping energy planning in the region. New regasification facilities and gas-to-power plants are advancing from proposals to bankable projects, driven by demand from utilities and power producers.
New Fortress Energy has signed a three-year charter for the Energos Freeze FSRU in the Dominican Republic, starting operations in September 2025. In Puerto Rico, a long-term gas supply agreement with New Fortress aims to deliver up to 75 trillion BTU annually for seven years. Upcoming infrastructure opportunities include new storage hubs, pipeline extensions, and gas-to-power facilities, with sustained demand expected in the Western Hemisphere.
