US Military to Integrate AI Technologies in African Lion 2026 Exercises in Morocco

DEFENSE

The US military will include artificial intelligence (AI) systems and next-generation warfare technologies in the African Lion 2026 exercises scheduled in Morocco from April 20 to May 8. This marks the first time such technologies will be tested in field scenarios during a multinational military exercise.

The initiative will feature a dynamic testing and innovation center, allowing the evaluation of AI systems under realistic operational conditions. This shift aims to transition technologies from testing to field deployment, enhancing decision-making efficiency and coordination among units.

The exercises will take place in multiple locations, including Agadir and Tan-Tan, with an emphasis on interoperability and regional security. The collaboration follows high-level meetings aimed at strengthening US-Morocco defense ties and builds on the 2020 Defence Cooperation Agreement, reinforcing military partnerships through joint exercises and arms deals.
