U.S. Navy Awards $392 Million to Saronic for 1000 NM Autonomous Drone Boats
The U.S. Navy has awarded Saronic a $392 million contract to build Corsair-class Autonomous Surface Vessels, enhancing fleet capabilities. Approximately $200 million is already allocated.
The 24-foot drone boats feature a 1000 nm range, a 1000-pound payload capacity, and speeds exceeding 35 knots. These vessels will enhance maritime domain awareness and surveillance while reducing risks to personnel.
This contract represents a significant Other Transaction Authority agreement, facilitating rapid deployment from prototype to operational status. It marks a key step in the Navy's strategy to develop a hybrid fleet that integrates manned warships with advanced unmanned systems.
