U.S. Navy Awards $73.8M Contract for BAE Systems Radio Frequency Decoys to Enhance Fighter Aircraft Survivability
The U.S. Navy has awarded a $73.8 million contract to BAE Systems for radio frequency countermeasures designed to protect fighter aircraft from advanced missile threats. These systems deploy towed decoys that mimic the radar signature of aircraft, misleading radar-guided missiles during engagement.
This investment emphasizes aircraft survivability in high-threat environments, allowing Navy carrier air wings to maneuver and complete missions under heavy defense. The contract is linked to the ALE-70 countermeasures system, which integrates with aircraft to deploy decoys that draw missiles away from the actual aircraft.
The procurement includes an additional 1,248 units, extending production to 2029. This initiative enhances coalition airpower and standardizes survivability solutions across allied forces, ensuring operational readiness against modern air threats.
