The U.S. Navy broke ground on February 4, 2026, for the Engineering Test Facility at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, vital for the Trident II D5LE2 missile system. The $166 million contract was awarded to Walsh Federal, with completion set for January 2028.
The 130,000-square-foot facility will include lab spaces, heavy-lift cranes, and support areas to enhance missile development. Alongside this, a renovated sonobuoy building was inaugurated, initiating a multi-phase plan to upgrade existing facilities at the Naval Ordnance Test Unit, which has been crucial for missile system development for over 70 years.
