The U.S. Navy has started building a 12,100 m² Engineering Test Facility (ETF) at Cape Canaveral, Florida, with an investment of $166 million. The ETF will include eight laboratories and nine heavy-lift cranes to support the testing and modernization of the Trident II D5LE2 missile system, with completion slated for January 2028.
This facility is intended to streamline the prototyping, assembly, and evaluation processes for the Trident II missiles, thereby enhancing operational efficiency. The contract for the ETF was awarded to Walsh Federal in November 2025. This construction is part of a larger plan by the Navy to complete 28 infrastructure projects by 2032 to modernize its strategic deterrence capabilities.
