US Navy Leadership Changes at Yokosuka Ship Repair Facility
The US Navy has dismissed top officials at the Ship Repair Facility and Japan Regional Maintenance Center in Yokosuka due to a loss of confidence in their leadership. This facility plays a critical role in supporting US naval operations in the Indo-Pacific region.

The US Navy has relieved Capt Wendel Penetrante, Edwin Catubig, and Thomas Howell from their leadership positions at the Ship Repair Facility and Japan Regional Maintenance Center (SRF-JRMC) in Yokosuka. This facility is vital for US naval operations, particularly for the 7th Fleet, which operates across 36 countries.
This leadership change marks the second in 20 months, indicating ongoing challenges within the Navy’s command structure. The Navy has recently undergone several similar leadership changes in other units, emphasizing a broader reevaluation of command effectiveness. Potential risks include operational impacts in the Indo-Pacific region, where the SRF-JRMC supports naval readiness amid rising tensions with China.
