U.S. Navy Submits Final Amended Analysis for EA-18G Growler Operations at Naval Air Station Whidbey Island
The U.S. Navy has submitted its Final Amended Analysis for the EA-18G 'Growler' Airfield Operations at Naval Air Station Whidbey Island, the last step in the Environmental Impact Statement. This analysis includes a reassessment of relocating the Growler community to Naval Air Facility El Centro, determining it is not a reasonable alternative.
Findings indicate that Preferred Alternative 2A would increase annual GHG emissions but would not significantly impact global GHG levels or inhibit Washington's reduction goals. The analysis found no significant adverse effects on six analyzed bird species and suggests that aircraft noise might have minor impacts on childhood development, although long-term effects are unknown. The Navy recommends against relocating the Growler aircraft, asserting such a move would degrade operational effectiveness.
