US Navy Tests Advanced Laser Weapon Technology Against Drone
The US Navy successfully tested a 150-kilowatt laser weapon, marking a significant advancement in direct energy weapons (DEWs). This test enhances naval capabilities against aerial threats and demonstrates the potential for redefining maritime warfare.

The US Navy's Pacific Fleet announced the successful test of a 150-kilowatt Laser Weapon System Demonstrator (LWSD) that destroyed a drone during a live test on May 16. The test, conducted in the Pacific Ocean, highlights the Navy's ongoing development of high energy laser weapons.
Capt. Karrey Sanders stated that advanced at-sea tests will provide insights into the capabilities of DEWs against UAVs and small crafts. Meanwhile, the US Army is developing the Indirect Fires Protection Capability-High Energy Laser (IFPC-HEL), anticipated to have a power of 300 kilowatts for intercepting various projectiles. The integration of these technologies could significantly alter engagement strategies at sea and enhance military decision-making.
