US Renewable Energy Capacity Expected to Exceed 1 Terawatt by 2035

NATURAL GASSOLAR ENERGYWIND ENERGY

US renewable energy capacity is projected to surpass 1,060 gigawatts (GW) by 2035, up from approximately 414.5 GW in 2024. This growth is driven by state mandates, private investment, and long-term procurement programs.

A report by GlobalData indicates that investments in renewable energy systems will reach around $442.2 billion from 2025 to 2030. Solar power will lead the expansion, increasing from about 231.4 GW in 2024 to nearly 737.8 GW by 2035, with Texas, California, and Midwestern states as key contributors.

Onshore wind capacity is also expected to grow from around 156 GW to nearly 269 GW, although coastal wind projects face delays due to regulatory issues. Meanwhile, natural gas capacity is projected to rise from approximately 573.1 GW to around 620.9 GW, and nuclear capacity is expected to increase slightly from 97 GW to 102 GW. The transition reflects a move towards a lower-carbon power system.
