US Seeks Stake in Venezuelan Oil through DOD and Investor Alejandro Betancourt
The U.S. Department of Defense is negotiating a partnership with Alejandro Betancourt for a sizable investment in Venezuelan oil fields. This move aims to secure a strategic foothold in Venezuela's oil industry amid rising global crude prices.

The U.S. Department of Defense is in discussions with Alejandro Betancourt regarding a potential investment in up to 17 Venezuelan oil fields, which may include a 100-year lease on crucial assets. These fields are located in key regions such as the Junin area of the Orinoco Belt and around Lake Maracaibo.
The Pentagon's Office of Strategic Capital, established in 2022, could manage these investments as Washington seeks to revitalize Venezuela's oil production. Concurrently, U.S. companies like Chevron and Halliburton are pursuing multibillion-dollar agreements to expand their presence in the region. The initiative aligns with efforts to address rising global oil prices and dependency on Venezuelan oil supplies, indicating a potential shift in U.S. engagement in Latin America's energy landscape.
