U.S. Space Force Activates U.S. Space Forces Northern Command at Peterson Space Force Base
On January 30, the U.S. Space Force activated the U.S. Space Forces Northern at Peterson Space Force Base as a component to U.S.
Northern Command (NORTHCOM). This marks the seventh activation of a Space Force service component since November 2020. The new command aims to enhance homeland defense capabilities, focusing on domain awareness, missile tracking, satellite communications, and orbital warfare.
General Gregory Guillot emphasized the importance of these capabilities in responding to increasing threats. SPACEFOR-NORTH will work alongside U.S. Space Command to develop future requirements for space operations, ensuring combatant commanders can maintain effective defense strategies. Previous activations include Space Forces Indo-Pacific, Central, Space, and Europe-Africa, with certain subordinate components established under the Indo-Pacific command.
