US Space Force Allocates $1.8 Billion for Advanced Space Surveillance
The US Space Force has committed $1.843 billion to 14 contractors under the Andromeda program for advanced space monitoring systems. This initiative aims to enhance space situational awareness and replace existing satellite capabilities with a more resilient network.

The Andromeda program focuses on developing technologies critical for space situational awareness, with contracts awarded as firm-fixed-price agreements valid until April 8, 2036. Initial funding for fiscal year 2025 was $1.4 million, but future expenditures will predominantly stem from subsequent orders.
Selected contractors include established defense firms and emerging space companies, reflecting a diverse industrial base. Notable participants are Astranis Space Technologies, Northrop Grumman, Lockheed Martin, Millennium Space Systems, and others.
The program emphasizes observation, tracking, and data transmission capabilities while excluding kinetic weapons. The first procurement will finance satellites for the RG-XX program, intended to replace the current Geosynchronous Space Situational Awareness Program fleet.
