USA Rare Earth Announces $1.2B Facility for Rare Earths in South Carolina
USA Rare Earth shares surged over 4% following the announcement of a $1.2 billion facility in South Carolina. The facility aims to enhance domestic production of rare earth materials amid increasing demand due to Pentagon restrictions on foreign-sourced magnets.

USA Rare Earth plans to construct a $1.2 billion facility in Cherokee County, South Carolina, enhancing domestic production capabilities for rare earth materials. The operation is expected to produce 6,400 metric tons of sintered NdFeB magnets and 5,000 metric tons of strip-cast metals annually, aiming for operational status by 2028.
This development is significant as the Pentagon's policy will ban Chinese-sourced magnets in defense applications starting January 2027, increasing demand for U.S. production. The project is poised to create approximately 490 jobs and strengthen the domestic supply chain amid concerns over reliance on China, which currently dominates the rare earth market.
