USACE to Provide Emergency Power Assessments for Nashville Schools Post-Winter Storm Fern

DEFENSE

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) has initiated power assessments at eight Nashville schools to ensure they are safe for students to return following Winter Storm Fern. This task, part of a FEMA mission assignment, involves evaluating backup generator systems and commercial power status.

The team includes members from the USACE Tulsa District, the 249th Engineer Battalion, and local contractors, supported by the Nashville District. Inspections of Dan Mills Elementary, Dupont Tyler Middle, East High, East Middle, Norman Binkley Elementary, Dupont Elementary, Nashville School of Arts, and Pennington Elementary were ongoing as of February 2. This operation is part of a broader national response to the storm, with USACE deploying additional teams to various locations across the Southeast and East Coast, focusing on critical infrastructure recovery.
