USP Students Successfully Launch Elara II Rocket with Hybrid Engine
On April 4, 2026, students from USP's School of Engineering launched the Elara II rocket, utilizing the hybrid propulsion engine Nemesis. This marks a significant achievement in Brazil's aerospace technology landscape, showcasing the potential for in-house launch capabilities in a university setting.

The Elara II rocket launch at USP's Pirassununga campus involved collaboration with the Air Force Academy for airspace clearance. This mission integrated various systems, including hybrid propulsion, aerodynamic braking, parachute deployment, and structural integrity evaluation, reflecting nearly ten years of student-led research.
The campaign lasted over 12 hours, culminating in the launch at 6:06 p.m. Despite performance issues related to oxidizer levels, the recovery system functioned effectively, minimizing damage. The project was supported by Amigos da Poli and received material assistance from Air Liquide and Gás Norte. The initiative aims to establish in-house launch capabilities, responding to the lack of aerospace program infrastructure at Poli.
