Uttar Pradesh Launches Solar-Powered Water Supply Schemes Across Rural Areas
Uttar Pradesh is implementing 33,157 solar-based rural water supply schemes, benefiting over 13 crore people. This initiative, part of the Jal Jeevan Mission, demonstrates a commitment to sustainable development and substantial long-term savings.
Uttar Pradesh has initiated the rollout of 33,157 solar-powered water supply schemes, impacting 67,013 villages and approximately 2.07 crore households. The total capital expenditure for this initiative is around ₹7,812 crore, with projected savings of about ₹37,395 crore over 30 years due to reduced energy costs.
The integration of solar energy is expected to save nearly 900 MW of power from the National Power Grid and is designed for a lifecycle of 30 years. Furthermore, the initiative aims to reduce annual carbon emissions by about 13 lakh metric tonnes, contributing to India's net-zero emissions target by 2070. The project has garnered national recognition, winning the 'Prime Minister's Excellence Award' for its innovative approach.
