The University of West Florida (UWF) and the Institute for Human & Machine Cognition (IHMC) have secured a $775,360 Defense University Research Instrumentation Program grant from the Office of Naval Research (ONR). The grant will fund advanced humanoid and ground robotic platforms, high-performance computing, and immersive teleoperation systems.

This will enhance capabilities for research in dynamic urban and hazardous environments, while also providing training for UWF's Intelligent Systems and Robotics Ph.D. students. This is the fourth DURIP award for the UWF-IHMC team, which aims to advance autonomous robotic systems and strengthen the region's robotics and defense innovation. The funding will support the integration of key capabilities, including precision actuators, a rugged unmanned ground vehicle, NVIDIA Jetson Orin computing modules, and immersive teleoperation systems.
