Vale Base Metals Expansion Targets 20% Increase in Mineral Reserves by 2027
Vale Base Metals (VBM) announced a 6% increase in copper mineral reserves to 53 million tonnes for 2025, with plans to boost total mineral reserves and resources in Canada and Brazil by over 20% by the end of 2027. Focused exploration efforts in key mining districts, particularly in Carajás, aim to enhance mineral resource classifications and extend mine life, which is critical for sustaining future production levels of copper and nickel.

Vale Base Metals (VBM) reported a 6% increase in copper mineral reserves and resources, reaching 53 million tonnes in 2025. The company plans to increase total mineral reserves and resources in Canada and Brazil by over 20% by the end of 2027, emphasizing continued exploration in key districts like Carajás.
In 2026, VBM aims to conduct over 120,000 meters of diamond drilling in Carajás, focusing on resource expansion and near-mine extensions. The results from 2025 confirm strong mineral continuity and support long-term underground development concepts.
However, the decrease in reserves at Salobo, attributed to depletion, raises concerns about maintaining overall production levels. The strategic focus on high-potential mining districts underscores the need for disciplined exploration to sustain growth.
