Van Oord Completes Coastal Maintenance at Noord-Beveland Using 100% Bio-LNG

NATURAL GAS

Van Oord has successfully completed coastal maintenance at Noord-Beveland for Rijkswaterstaat, reinforcing the Zeeland coast with 1 million cubic meters of sand at Banjaardstrand. The work was carried out using the LNG dredger Vox Apolonia, which operated on 100% Bio-LNG throughout the project.

This initiative is part of the national Coastal Care program aimed at maintaining the Dutch coast. The use of Bio-LNG aligns with Rijkswaterstaat's goal to reduce emissions in infrastructure projects. The Green Fuel Fund launched by Van Oord in late 2024 supports the adoption of renewable fuels by offsetting additional costs.

Van Oord is the first maritime contractor with climate goals approved by the Science Based Targets initiative. The company plans to conduct beach nourishment at Goeree-Westkop and Heemskerk in 2026 under the same program.
