Van Oord Completes Coastline Maintenance in Netherlands Using 100% Bio-LNG
Van Oord has successfully completed coastline maintenance in Noord-Beveland, Zeeland, by depositing 1 million m³ of sand at Banjaard beach using the LNG-fuelled dredger Vox Apolonia, which operated on 100% bio-LNG. This initiative, part of the Dutch Coastline Care programme, reflects the sustainability goals of both Van Oord and Rijkswaterstaat, with further beach replenishment projects planned for 2026. Van Oord's efforts are supported by its Green Fuel Fund, aimed at promoting renewable fuels and achieving net-zero emissions.

Van Oord has completed coastline maintenance in Noord-Beveland, Zeeland, Netherlands, for Rijkswaterstaat, depositing 1 million m3 of sand at Banjaard beach using the LNG-fuelled trailing suction hopper dredger Vox Apolonia, which operated on 100% bio-LNG. This project is part of the Dutch Coastline Care programme, with additional beach replenishment planned for Goeree-Westkop and Heemskerk in 2026.
The use of bio-LNG aligns with the sustainability goals of both organizations and was facilitated by Van Oord's Green Fuel Fund, launched in late 2024, aimed at reducing costs for renewable fuels. Van Oord is the first maritime contractor with approved climate targets by the Science Based Targets initiative and is focused on achieving net-zero emissions through innovative solutions.
