Vandenberg Space Force Base Issues RFI for Heavy Launch Capacity Amid Community Concerns
Vandenberg Space Force Base has issued a Request For Information (RFI) for heavy launch capacity at Space Launch Complex 14 (SLC-14). Congressman Salud Carbajal has urged the Air Force and U.S. Space Force to evaluate potential environmental impacts on surrounding communities.
The RFI aims to attract United States Launch Service Providers to lease land for the design and construction of heavy commercial launch infrastructure. Local residents have expressed concerns about noise and physical disturbances from launches, such as sonic booms and vibrations.
Col. James Horne III, Chief of Operations for Space Launch Delta 30, acknowledges these concerns and emphasizes the importance of community engagement and noise mitigation research. Public input sessions are planned to address community questions as the base moves forward with its proposal.
