Venture Global Wins Arbitration Against Spain's Repsol Over LNG Deliveries

NATURAL GAS

Venture Global won an arbitration case against Repsol regarding delayed LNG deliveries from its Calcasieu Pass project under a 20-year contract. This decision follows BP's favorable ruling in a similar case.

Venture Global has now won two of three arbitrations against major US LNG exporter Repsol, having previously defeated Shell in August. Other companies, including Edison and Galp, have filed claims against Venture Global, alleging it prioritized spot market sales over contract obligations.

Venture Global attributed delays to electrical system failures. Following the announcement, its stock rose by 1%, having previously increased by nearly 7%. Repsol signed a purchase agreement with Venture Global in 2018 for 1 million tons per year for 20 years. Under a trade agreement, the EU plans to secure $750 billion in US energy contracts by 2028.
