Verra Introduces New Carbon Capture Methodology for Natural Gas Processing Facilities

CARBON CAPTURENATURAL GAS

Verra has launched VMD0062, a new methodology module that integrates carbon capture and storage (CCS) projects from natural gas processing facilities into the voluntary carbon market. This update expands the existing VM0049 framework under the Verified Carbon Standard program, allowing project developers to quantify greenhouse gas emission reductions from CO2 that would otherwise be vented during gas processing.

The module includes eligibility for both existing and planned facilities, potentially increasing project participation in major gas-producing regions. Developed with financial support from BKV Corporation, the module reflects a growing focus on industrial applications within the carbon market. The renewed interest in carbon capture is supported by tax incentives in the U.S., such as the expanded 45Q credit, and is gaining traction in regions like the Middle East and Asia, where gas processing emissions are significant.
