Vietnam and India aim to enhance their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership as they approach its decade anniversary in 2026. Indian Ambassador to Vietnam Tshering W. Sherpa highlighted the need to reinforce traditional pillars of their relationship, including strategic trust and cultural ties, while also exploring opportunities in emerging areas like innovation and technology.
Since establishing the partnership in 2016, both nations have made strides in political engagement, defense, trade, and education. However, trade relations have not yet reached their potential, prompting a focus on improving business linkages.
Both countries are reviewing the 2009 ASEAN-India Trade in Goods Agreement to strengthen trade resilience. Future cooperation will prioritize renewable energy, science, technology, and innovation, alongside an increase in scholarships for Vietnamese students under India's ITEC framework.
