Vietnam Experts Advocate Phased Roadmap for Natural Gas Market Development
NATURAL GAS
Vietnam is advised to implement a phased roadmap for natural gas market development as part of its energy transition. By 2030, the country targets 9,000-10,000 MW of gas-fired power capacity. Natural gas is seen as a crucial transition fuel towards achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.
However, experts warn that rigid policies may deter investment and delay LNG projects. Vietnam's strategic location can enhance its role as a regional LNG hub, but it must address legal and pricing framework challenges. A transparent gas market is vital to prevent project delays and rising electricity costs.
