Vietnam Government Approves National Steel Development Strategy to 2030
Vietnam's government has approved a national strategy to develop a self-reliant steel industry by 2030, focusing on high-quality specialized steel for automobiles, high-speed rail, and energy infrastructure. The plan aims for 80-85% domestic steel demand fulfillment and targets crude steel production of 25-26 million tonnes annually, with a focus on green steel technologies.

Vietnam's Deputy Prime Minister Bùi Thanh Sơn approved a national steel development strategy aiming for a self-reliant industry by 2030. The strategy prioritizes high-quality specialized steel products over conventional construction materials, targeting 80-85% domestic demand fulfillment.
Crude steel production is set at 25-26 million tonnes per year, with finished steel output at 32-33 million tonnes. By 2050, the goal is to produce 65-70 million tonnes of crude steel. The strategy emphasizes green steel development and the production of specialized steel for national infrastructure, including high-speed rail and defense applications. Stronger linkages across the steel value chain are also planned.
