Virginia Governor Appoints New Authority Members; $20M in Federal Funding for Fire Departments Announced

Governor Glenn Youngkin appointed Saskia Mordijck to the Virginia Nuclear Energy Consortium Authority and Jordan Stewart to the Board of Veterans Services. The Radio Amateur Society of Norfolk received a $12,000 grant to advance education in radio frequency spectrum technologies.

U.S. Senators Mark Warner and Tim Kaine announced over $20 million in federal funding for Virginia fire departments, with $3.8 million awarded to 17 localities for the 2024 fiscal year. Two Hampton Roads airports will receive federal grants: $226,050 for Hampton Roads Executive Airport and $285,000 for Suffolk Executive Airport for infrastructure upgrades.

Churchill Downs Inc. and the Virginia Veterans Foundation donated $2,500 to Joe Bagley VFW Post 2582 for building upgrades. The Williamsburg Health Foundation awarded nearly $6.9 million in grants in 2025 to enhance health services.

The Portsmouth Redevelopment and Housing Authority opened Lexington Reserve, a senior living community. Chesapeake Regional Healthcare was recognized as one of the most community-minded companies in Hampton Roads. Naval Medical Center Portsmouth received an A Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade for fall 2025.
